When in a pool hall, avoid cues that have tips that attach to the ferrule (the fore-end of the cue) with a screw. Cuesticks with hollow ferrules can break easily, because they're unable to absorb the force of impact from a break or other forceful shot.

Some pool halls offer more than just pool tables; they may also offer cue repair and other services for the billiards aficionado. In some cases, you may even have access to classes teaching the finer points of various pool games, from snooker to nine-ball.

Before you bring a minor into a pool hall, check to be sure they don't have an age limit. The halls that have limits often set them because they serve alcohol, but there are plenty of family-style pool halls out there where you don't have to worry about bringing the kids in.
