If you have no idea how to locate a reputable tattoo parlor, just start asking around. Most towns have a few high-class, very clean parlors where local celebrities and tattoo aficionados prefer to get their body art done. They may charge a bit extra, but they're worth it.

One way to find a great tattoo artist is the keep an eye out for people sporting nifty tattoos, especially fresh ones. If they got them locally, they might be willing to direct you to the tattoo parlor where that particular artist works. Try to get more than one name, so you have some leeway to choose.

If you're not ready to go all the way with a tattoo, some tattoo parlors will be willing to give you a henna tattoo first. This is a surface-only skin decoration made with a strong brown to reddish brown dye that will only last for a few days or weeks, at most.
